Schindler Exhibition


Aug. 25 - Sept. 25

from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Washington, DC

The MonDak Heritage Center is one of only five museums in North America to host this traveling exhibit this year. The exhibit tells the story of German industrialist Oskar Schindler through rare photographs and other artifacts. Schindler rescued hundreds of Jews from Nazi concentration camps and was the subject of the best-selling book and Academy Award wining movie Schindler’s List. Teacher's Workshop

In addition to the display, the Heritage Center will host a FREE Teacher's Workshop on Teaching the Holocaust  June 12-13 for area teachers of grades 8-12. The workshops are led by instructors from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's Education Department and the MonDak Historical & Art Society.

School Tours

Appointments for school tours of the exhibition may be made by contacting the MonDak Heritage Center at 406-433-3500 or mdhc@midrivers.com or stop by the facility at 120 Third Ave. SE in Sidney, MT.

Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 4 pm and Saturdays from 1 pm to 4 pm or by appointment.

Asked why he had intervened on behalf of the Jews, Schindler replied:

"The persecution of Jews in the General Government in Polish territory gradually worsened in its cruelty. In 1939 and 1940 they were forced to wear the Star of David and were herded together and confined in ghettos. In 1941 and 1942 this unadulterated sadism was fully revealed. And then a thinking man, who had overcome his inner cowardice, simply had to help. There was no other choice."
